Well I hope 2011 finds you well, lots of positive news at SafeandSound Mastering, starting with a brand new custom analogue equalizer. This is being delivered this week and I am very excited. It has been meticulously specified and built from scratch and will be making it's way onto a lot of the masters coming from the studio.Business is very good considering that Jan/Feb can typically be a quietish start to a new year so this is great news, it seems the fresh talent and high quality music that is being produced in the UK and beyond has no signs of letting up, my hat goes off to the hardworking musicians, producers and engineers who keep this industry we work in thriving.
As a small operation I often find myself wondering about the other mastering studios you can find online, it is with some interest that you can see numerous mastering studios with incredibly low pricing £15.00 etc. I see myself as being very keenly priced but I also appreciate that to own the equipment I do (all high end) that there is a value to it and it's application. A pre-requisite for mastering is equipment (especially monitoring) that can convey new and deeper information about a music mix. The PMC IB1S I chose at SafeandSound Mastering are perfectly suited to such duties. I think if I was looking for mastering I would be considering if the facility I was planning on using had monitoring arrangements of a magnitude or two above what I was mixing/producing my music on. This would illustrate that the engineer was serious in his intent to resolve details otherwise unheard (that is even before the engineers skill, engineering experience, equipment, studio acoustics is brought in to question). In many instances best value does not equate to cheapest price. Then it appears there are people who charging above the rates I have chosen say £30.00/£35.00 per track. It certainly seems that you are paying for decor because taking a look at engineering credentials at this price point it certainly is not engineering experience that is being paid for and in some cases the equipment inventory is considerably
weaker. I am so confident that SafeandSound Mastering offers the best possible mastering below £60.00 per track that I back this with the free preview (time permitting). Here is the bottom line, my life is dedicated to my career, I am in this for the long run and there is nothing I like better than working with music and improving people's music ready to be distributed into the wider world. When you make your choice make sure you sort the men from the boys and get a free preview. Keep that tracking and mixing up !
I wish all my current and future clients a great 2011.
